Combining a sense of hyper photorealism and the seeming documentation of an indefinite moment, Leah Giberson's paintings could be construed as static snapshots, were it not for her ability to create a mood of loneliness in a world people obviously reside within, in spite of their invisibility. Empty driveways, vacant pools, tarp-shrouded cars, homes with closed windows and doors, leaving the viewer wondering what lives do these unseen people lead? Of her work, she says, “shadows loom from unknown/unseen sources, horizon lines become uncomfortably close … despite all this uneasiness, there is also a sense of bravery or at least a blind and determined optimism.”
